Dennis Conway's Awards

2013 BEA¹, PAC² Division, Research Honors, for a paper entitled “Are Incentives From U.S. State Film Offices to Media Productions Worth The Money?” (9 pages).   The paper was chosen for the 2013 conference’s “Scholar to Scholar” session. (Juried Competition).   It was later published in the BEA Journal of Media Education, October 2012 edition.
Abstract: The incentives from all 50 state film boards (and the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico) to film, TV, and Internet productions are reviewed, and the merits of subsidizing these artistic activities in a recession is assessed.   See: http://en.calameo.com/books/000091789f7b01ad2cc34
   
2012 UFVA³ First Place in Short Story Screenplay Category, for “Multicultural,” a comedy. (Juried Competition)
Synopsis: A college professor who works in a 3-person department, which includes his wife and his mistress, gets his comeuppance.
   
2011 BEA¹ Award of Excellence, for “Second Look,” a comedy. (Juried Competition)
Synopsis: A struggling, recently graduated art student tries to resist selling her first painting to someone she despises.
   
2008 BEA¹ Award of Excellence, for “Violent Nature,” feature – length screenplay, Science Fiction/Thriller. (Juried Competition)
Synopsis: In 2025, an idealistic scientist falls in love with the “genetically violent” female prisoner he’s hired to reform, and then uncovers a government conspiracy.
